MILLICENT THE MAGNIFICENT

Bach's fourth story about brother bear cubs Oliver and Ronald gets a boost from Millicent the Magnificent, a fast-talking, hand-standing girl cub raised in the circus, who proceeds to teach Oliver acrobatics so he can perform with her in the upcoming festival. Oliver is delighted to discover talents he didn't know he had, but heavy-reading Ronald, antagonistic toward Millicent from the start, tries secretly and unsuccessfully to top their act by practicing stunts from a book. At last, as Festival approaches, Pa takes the increasingly snappy Ronald for a walk and helps him understand that everyone has different talents. And, on the big day, Millicent the Magnificent and the One and Only Oliver are introduced by Ronald, the swellest-sounding ringmaster ever. A most agreeable accommodation compared with last year's vindictive Grouchy Uncle Otto, and overall the snappiest yet of Bach's honey-coated lessons.
