THE MEAT IN THE SANDWICH

The meat in the sandwich is in the middle--like Mike (in between Sam[antha] and a baby Newby), but also nowhere special when it comes to sports (sports--""the core challenge to men"") particularly when he'd like to play hockey like Bobby Orr. Then there are certain changes going on around the house when Mom decides they should vacuum or do the dishes so she can paint until they all realize she's a dud. Mike however, the ""player on waiver,"" looks as if he might come through big until one disastrous game when he has to learn that he'll never be a star and also loses his sometime friend, it sounds like much more of a lesson than it is. Mike is innately more cheerful than Mollie Make-Believe; the domestic repartee is likably easy to read and certainly there's a boy, or a girl, in a teeshirt who'll enjoy it.
