Resumes of the ""neglected"" directors, the unsung ""heroes of film history"" -- Miss Fleming has neglected all the auteur criticism which proves otherwise -- going back to a mechanic, Edwin Stanton Porter, who produced the first reels on Edison's Vitascope and of course Griffith and Mack Sennett who fired Harold Lloyd but discovered Chaplin, and DeMille ""who discovered Hollywood"" and went from ""tasteful"" Feature Plays to those less tasteful spectacles. Robert Flaherty, Frank Capra, John Ford, the foresighted and versatile Disney, Hitchcock (who is given a little more extension) and Kubrick complete these short clips of the men and their vehicles but none of it goes much below eye level. Twenty-two illustrations of the directors and one scene from one film.
