THE WONDERFUL ICE CREAM CART

As wholesome as The Canvas Castle (1949, p. 359) a story of an engineer's family in Alaska, are these adventures of Jerry, an American boy in Belgium, who makes new friends and sees them find new happiness. On his walks around Antwerp, Jerry gets to know Madame Auriol, who runs a flower shop, her children, Jean Pierre, Helene and Emilie, and nice old Papa oncourt who has an ice cream cart. Later, on a vacation excursion to the Ardennes Forest, Jerry also comes to know Mark, a Belgian war veteran who has lost his memory and is in a monastery hospital. A happy ending to Jerry's adventures with the Auriol's and Papa Goncourt comes with the discovery that Mark is Madame Auriol's lost husband.
