SAINTS WITHOUT HALOS

The pastor of the Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church of Brooklyn has given us an excellent series of character studies in this book. The characters are drown from the New Testament and while some of them are prominent, such as Peter, John and Paul, most of them are ""the common people"" of the Bible: Aias, Diotroples, Ds, Timothy, Philemon, Gaius and the like. Dr. Magary has the gift of apt characterization and phrase making. When one sees a chapter headed ""The Preacher at the Prize Fight"", or ""A Middle Aged Failure"" or ""Justice for Pontius Pilate"" that chapter is apt to be read. There is a wealth of illustrative material and new ""angles"" to old truths and familiar personalities in this book. Preachers particularly should be glad to have it.
