ECONOMIC POLICY AND FULL EMPLOYMENT

Another book postponed -- originally reported as follows:- ""A Harvard economist, author of America's Role in the World Economy, here discusses the necessity for long range planning to achieve high levels of employment and production. This one is not for general consumption; a pretty sound background in economics would seem to be a prerequisite for reading this book, but it should be of excellent value as a reference book for colleges and for libraries. There's a discussion of a full employment program of various countries,- Canada, Britain, Australia, Sweden, for instance- and a discussion of plans and actual laws and advances made here in the United States. For the general reader, probably the most interesting part of the book will be the appendices. Here he discusses the reputation of Hayek's Road to Serfdom; there are notes on Terborgh's The Bogey of Economic Maturity; praise for Wallace's Sixty Million Jobs; a discussion of the employment act of 1946; and a final chapter on inflation written by Hansen himself."" Provocative reading.
