Crime Club item -- added factor for pushing this new Amber Dean to the fore. Ingenious trick for a kidnapping lifts it out of the rut, but the exploration of the mystery leaves a good deal to be desired. A homey touch in the Finger Lakes rural background, with Max and Maggie, and spinster Abbie, Orville Smith, Treasury man, and a flock of F.B.I. minions combining forces to close in on an incredible couple who have worked out a new approach to this most despicable of crimes. Readable enough but not up to Amber Dean's best.
