As charming and delightful as Sardinian Sideshow and Roman Roundabout, but a more intimately personal book covering the post-war years. Mad trips with servants and children across war-devastated Central Europe to the prosperous Scandinavian countries, successive summer holidays, battles against illness, friendships and passing contacts, the social round in the beloved Roman home, and finally the move to Czechoslovakia. There is less dealing with renowned European figures, more of family life, but throughout humor, sympathy, and a faculty for picking dramatic highspots.
