Concerned as he is with the relationship of poetry and religion, the author is of the conviction that the modern poets, Auden, Eliot, Hopkins, Peguy and the rest, while seemingly breaking with the Christian tradition and writing out of the framework of a quasi-secularism are nevertheless ""speaking to our condition"" and may well be the vehicles whereby the values of the Christian tradition are preserved in the crisis through which civilization is passing. An extremely thought-provoking book.
