SUE PATCH AND THE CRAZY CLOCKS

Sue Patch can fix anything (""leaning towers, wilting flowers, torn books, unhappy looks. . ."")--except when the King calls her in because the dozens of nonsynchronous clocks in his many-roomed palace have him rushing in futile circles (if the clock in the Great Hall says four, it's time to go to the dining hall for tea; unfortunately, that clock says two. . .). Setting them all alike doesn't work because too much time elapses while it's done; the palace is too big for everyone to hear the same shouted message; but Sue will come up with a satisfying solution. An entertaining story with whimsical logic to tickle minds and funny bones; Hoffman's precise illustrations give the kingdom and the characters a pleasingly diminutive, fantastical air. Good fare for beginning readers.
