SHAMROCK CARGO

Too sprightly an approach to a sober theme in this story of the fortunes of an Irish lad and an American on the mercy voyage to famished Ireland in 1847. A young Bostonian, Peter Hamilon, who has seen revealing letters regarding the famine, convinces the authorities that supplies must be sent. An incident on the voyage- a visit to the Blarney Stone later, somehow outweigh the more vital aspects of the story -- though stress on American bounty to those in need is evident.
