PLAYS OF HISTORY AND LEGEND

An anthology of plays and curtain raisers, from various original sources, most of them with historical and costume background. Even the modern ones, with scouts taking part, are tied up with legendary material. All periods -- Charlemagne, Jeanne d'Aro, Washington, etc.etc. Various length plays, though none are very long. Enough leeway allowed for original work in scenery and costumes, though fairly brief suggestions rather than full descriptions and instructions. Dodd, Mead has, probably, the best anthologies of dramatic material for use in schools and camps, and this is an excellent addition to the list. Could be used by young people without adult direction but planned for use primarily with teacher or parent in control. Size of caste variable -- both boys and girls included -- and a certain amount of not too involved group casting.
