DARWIN'S VISION & CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVES

The articles included in this volume were originally published in 1959 in the Fordham University Quarterly, Thought, commemorating the hundredth anniversary of the publication of Darwin's The Origin of Species. A biologist, a philosopher, a theologian, a historian and a student of literature and the history of ideas, view, in separate papers, the basic notions and significant influences of Darwin's thought, in the light of the Catholic view of God, man and the universe. Each article is truly a profound study of one of the most significant and controversial ideas in the modern world. The reader cannot but agree with Bishop Wright's ""Foreword"" when it states, ""These papers are in no sense pamphlet refutations of Darwinism; neither are they naive efforts at uncritical assimilation into Catholic thought of the postulates or corollaries of Darwin's master, idea of Evolution"". He concludes that these essays are ""characterized by critical caution and careful effort to differentiate truth from half-truth or flat error and to salvage solid science from fanciful or fallacious speculation"". Splendid material.
