THE DRAMA OF ALBERT EINSTEIN

Written by a close friend of the Einstein family over the years, this biography of Einstein is a sensitive portrait and a loving tribute. It takes a direct course from Einstein's Swabian family and their placid way of life, to the scientist we know whose simplicity and humility have amazed an incredulous world. It shuttles between anecdotes and scientific explanations with ease and grace. But most and best of all, it gives a personal sense of the man himself as now his last years are lived out in the awareness of the disaster the atomic age can bring. The facts of Einstein's life are familiar by now to many- but here they are aligned in context and given a continuity and a new vitality. Perhaps most of all, there is the resolution of his ""unworldliness"", his withdrawals (many have felt that his presence ""is only a temporary loan"") in the inner armour which serves to leave him spiritually free- although morally bound to mankind.
