THE SNOW AND THE SUN

The richly drawn woodcuts by the author in 3 colors are the outstanding features of this South American folk rhyme offered both in Spanish and English. Though the content differs, the poetic technique has its counterpart in other languages as well. A chain reaction is set up as each line is incorporated into a winding poem which grows until the full circle is completed. All things considered are ""bad"" from the ""snow that hurts my feet"" to the ""sun that melts the snow"" down to ""the man that corrals the ox"". Obviously this variant on an old theme suffers a loss in translation and though an older child may have fun testing his memory with it, the less mature audience will be completely stymied.
