THE SEEKERS OF SHAR-NUHN

More lush, innocuous fantasy from the author of How the Gods Wove in Kyrannon. It is at the Sign of the Dolphins in Shar-Nuhn that old Kla-Noh, the crafty seeker, finds his young helper, Si-Lun. Together they glide forth to seek the lost talisman of the lorn lady Li-Ah (her name means ""Fruit of Truthfulness""); and, after visiting an oracle in the wilderness, they return to tell her she needs only her self-reliance and not the carved cat to overcome her father's megalomania. Si-Lun also tells of his earlier master who became insane with lust to fly like a bat and practiced ""foul diagrams"" which must culminate in the murder of a virgin. And so it goes: ""For an instant they saw their lives and their works as shining grains upon the strand of life, soon covered over but never lost, never futile."" Velvety twittering.
