This collection is prefaced by Phyllis Fenner who reports children's responses to the stories, and tells how they have taken the tales to heart. There's a story in rhyme, a couple with real child fun in them, some magic, and a ""sad and beautiful"" tale of the Mother of Jesus. The variety is wide, the approach is entirely quiet, and they all can be used in group work easily. The black and white, and full color pictures by Mary Barton, have a lively, decorative effect. A rather special type of story book, that should be available to the next older reading level.
