RADAR COMMANDOS

Off the beaten track of the series, this story is built around a British-Free French raid on a Nazi radar installation in Normandy during World War II- rather than an incident in American history. At Bruneval near Le Havre, fifteen year old Paul Martin is nearly captured when he goes back to watch the Germans who have taken over his family's farm. In hiding, he is contacted by the British, whose photographic reconnaissance units have detected a new type of apparatus at the farm-enabling the Germans to detect night movements- which will necessitate innovations in allied air tactics. Needing his knowledge of the terrain, the British spirit Paul to England. Together they prepare for a commando raid, to capture the machinery so they can study it effectively, and they carry out their mission successfully. Unobtrusive facts about radar and clean narration are good points.
