THE RIVER PLATE REPUBLICS

A colorful, descriptive profile of the three republics, with the focus on Argentine, and a concluding section on Uruguay and Paraguay. In dealing with the Argentine, the author starts with an outline of his history in its four phases and goes on to consider Buenos Aires in all the detail that make it a tourists' mecca. The rest of the country is seen in its more natural, beautiful aspects, the Pampa with its estancias and ranch life, Southern Argentine and Patagonia with its indigenous culture, the Falkland Islands, the lake region on the border of Chile, on up to the northern provinces, their cities and the rivers that run into the River Plate. Paraguay and Uruguay are handled in bare, obvious outline....Sell as an informed and informative, though slightly rhapsodical tour of the region; secondarily as a guidebook.
