KAREN'S NURSERY SCHOOL PROJECT

As a fill-in while she waits for Joe to graduate from college, 17 year old Karen rather half-heartedly decides to take an assistant's Job in a nursery school in her small home town- but as she works, her aims grow stronger and more satisfying. Distracted at first by the rosy picture of marriage, and by Joe who thinks she should stay home and housekeep, there is nevertheless an undercurrent of new stimulation when Karen begins to realize that working with children is serious business. Mrs. Stevens, the director of the school and a hard task master, gives her books on child psychology and spares no rod on Karen either, when she is inefficient. Then Joe realizes what the job has come to mean. His encouragement and Karen's determination to go to college, are marred by a setback Karen thinks may cost her a good record, but it is a temporary one and Mrs. Stevens' opprobrium has its salutary outcome. Overdone at times, but good career material.
