This marks time on a 12,000 mile gypsy journey along the Continental Divide. The author and family watched riots in the streets at the Frontier Days Rodeo, visited Pike's Peak, Cripple Creek, a moccasin factory, the creator of the world's largest statue in the Black Hills, reminisced at Custer's last stand and observed Sun Valley, the Superstition Mountains, the Grand Canyon, dozens of other tourist map traps and occasionally got off the beaten road. Mr. Ballantine comes up with a lot of history and records some interesting conversations ... particularly those on prejudice and the Indians. There are also occasional oddities -- like the sign near the site of the first Atomic bomb explosion -- ""Death Was Created by God. Caused by Man it is Murder"". But it's a pretty wearying travel-rama unless you're on your way.
