The Indianapolis Clowns are the M*A*S*H squad of baseball -- a ragged and motley group which includes a 31-inch midget, a one-armed first baseman, has-beens and talented still-hopefuls who spend their summers doing what they love best for only $5-a-day meal money. After forty-four years of existence there's less of the Harlem Globetrotters type of antics than before -- it's easy to keep a straight face when playing a 70 game schedule in such towns as Fertile, North Dakota, Muscatine, Iowa and Pomonkey, Maryland. ""It's a tough life with the Clowns"" to be sure. A glimpse at the very seams of the ball, pitched without a curve.
