In this volume a Swedish theologian brings to English- speaking readers a carefully reasoned analysis of the role of the Church in the present day world as seen from the continental and specifically from the Swedish point of view. He reflects upon the lessons learned by European churchmen during the war as a result of a rise of the Nationalist Socialist doctrine and of its eventual downfall. American churchmen who plan to attend the Amsterdam meeting of the World Council of Churches this year would do well to read this book, for they will be encountering very often the point of view herein expressed. It is scarcely a book which would appeal to the average reader of religious literature.
