This is the first-person account of a hard-preaching Bible-brandishing preacher who adopted New Orleans' Bourbon Street as his parish and its strippers, prostitutes and junkies as his flock. So far so good; the material is all there for at least a fundamentalist version of Junkie Priest. Unfortunately, neither Mr. Harrington nor his collaborator (Walter Wagner) have succeeded in turning that material into anything more than a chronicle of I-did-this and I-did-that, devoid of wit, humor, compassion, understanding and human interest. The book, in a word, is a waste of time for anyone but the most determined inspirationalist.
