SKY HIGH

This is one of those nondenominational commercial novels, heavily populated with people who are ambitious or rich and titled, nice and not nice--barely distinguishable in or out of their thermal underwear. They're at Sky High, the ""ultimate ski resort"" for 300 guests in the Rockies and big concept of Jake Chaffee--which he wants to share with Cassie Lamont after he divorces his wife. You'll find the usual Haileyesque hallmarks of those large accommodations, be it the creme fraiche flown in from Paris or temperament that curdles the hollandaise--in fact every item from the chair lift to the wine cellar. During the closing third Murphy pumps in the action--a suicide, the hunt for a repellent ski instructor, and a typhoid epidemic while Sky High is snowbound by an avalanche. Cable-knit one, purl two, and it still won't look handmade.
