PSYCHIATRY FOR THE MILLIONS

By a psychiatrist of European birth and training, and based on his experiences both in private practice and hospital clinics, this is a survey of the main causes and manifestations of mental and emotional maladjustment. The casework here- which is a substantial part of the book- is presumably typical and illustratively used. The child and his upbringing- problems in children and problem parents; sexual disturbances and marital differences; psychosomatic medicine; specific aspects such as depressions, neuroses, alcoholism, schizophrenia, paranoia, etc., and possible preventive and therapeutic techniques. The coverage here is adequate; the prose- which runs to ""Nay"" and ""Alas"" is not; and this science has had a better presentation at a popular level.
