GUIDE TO ART MUSEUMS IN THE UNITED STATES

There has long been a need for a complete guide to American art galleries so that we hail this first volume of a series. But we wish a larger typeface had been selected. This initial book covers all the important collections from Washington, D.C. down to Florida, guiding the devotee through troves and treasures, cataloguing, giving pointers to aid the newcomer in a region. We salute the approach of the book which credits the great philanthropists who founded the galleries:- Freer, Mellon, Phillips and the Sarasota collection of showman John Ringling. A cross index gives a complete catalogue of the works of all artists represented in major southeastern museums.
