RIVER DRAGON

An exciting, simple story for this age level -- good material for supplementary reading both as Indian material and national expansion and the beginnings of the age of transportation by steam. Young Eagle Feather and his friend, White Hawk, were part of the Cheyenne warrior party sent out to destroy the dragon steamboat. But a Pawnee attack and unexpected reverses drove Eagle Feather into the dread boat himself, and there he became brother to a white man and hero to his tribe. Good black and white chapter headings.
