I WANT TO BE A DOCTOR; I WANT TO BE A NEWS REPORTER; I WANT TO BE A POLICEMAN; I WANT TO BE A TRUCK-DRIVER

These are somewhat uneven in value. They are built on the same pattern:- through children who become interested because of their own experiences in each field of activity, who participate in some minor aspect and who learn what are the basic concepts and steps by which they could become a doctor- a news reporter- a policeman- a truck driver-eventually. The unevenness occurs when the thin thread of plot interest is broken- sometimes not even completed by the ultimate purpose. These books (there are now over twenty titles) meet a very real need at the easy reading (and remedial reading) level.
