HOORAY FOR PIG!

Stevens is careful to write some realistic backsliding into her sympathetic account of how Pig, aided by friends Raccoon, Otter, Beaver and Duck, overcomes his trepidation and gradually learns to swim, and Bennett's repertoire of cartoon postures and oversized beads of perspiration make it easy for similarly timid children to recognize Pig's states of mind. The more literal minded among them however might be less bolstered by Pig's success than skeptical about its probability.
