THE LONG LAND

In the Invitation to Travel series, this is primarily designed for tourists, reporting on Chile in sufficient detail to make the traveler more aware of the country. There's enough historical background, and plenty about the ""mad"" geography, climate, and distinctive qualities of the country to satisfy anyone Chile-bound; there is material on personalties and national characteristics, on pampas, forests, lakes, islands, desert; there is information on hotels, food and drink, the spectacular and the familiar in sight seeing, types of recreation, industries, etc. There are warnings too, and tabulated guide sheets. The sort of book that makes travel more interesting, and which is helpful in planning a trip.
