HALLOWEEN: Stories and Poems

Like Bauer's earlier collections (Rainy Day, etc.), a thematic gathering of short stories, poems, and tidbits of information, along with an annotated bibliography of additional resources. The stories here include Galdone's ""King of the Cats""; a short version of ""The Hairy Toe""; a more frightening tale, ""The Jigsaw Puzzle,"" by J.B. Stamper; and a charming retelling by Jeanne Hardendorff of ""The Bed Just So."" The poetry is unsurprising and familiar; still, it's helpful to have it collected together. Sis's whimsical, occasionally eerie b&w illustrations add appropriately to the humor and the mood. A welcome addition for programmers as well as for young readers.
