THE BEST BRITISH SHORT STORIES 1937

Except for the fact that there is the interest of discovery of a majority of unfamiliar names (to the American public), this seems a fairly mediocre group of stories. The usual current types of stories, social themes, modern horror stories, and virtually no ""period pieces"". Among many unknown names, one spots a few known writers, -- Hanley, Bowen, Golding. The volume includes the Yearbook of the British, Irish and Colonial short stories.
