The pastor of the Wilmette Parish Methodist Church in suburban Chicago has become very popular not only in his own community but, through his writing and radio broadcasts, in a much wider circle. Dr. Crowe banks heavily upon illustrations and quotations to make his messages vivid. In fact, some of his sermons are largely composed of illustrations. In the course of one sermon ten pages in length there are no less than twelve illustrations and quotations. There is a law of diminishing returns that applies to the use of illustrations. One feels that many will remember the illustrations themselves and forget the truth they are supposed to illuminate. The sixteen sermons in this book are all based on passages from the Sermon on the Mount. Among the titles are ""The Joyous Life"", ""The Adventurous Life"", ""The Genuine Life"". The sermons are interesting and stimulating rather than deeply stirring.
