JETS

This shows the relationship of Newton's laws of motion to the development of the modern jet and then goes on to describe the make-up of the jet engine and the problems posed by the sound barrier. Once these were overcome, the jet as we know it came into use. A quick look toward the future reveals a new problem -- the heat barrier- and takes the reader for a jet-rocket trip from New York to Los Angeles during which time will turn backward. This is a pleasing mixture of information and story.
