A survey of the progress of American aviation from the turn of the century to the battle of the Coral Sea takes the form of war correspondent Andrew Simpson's life story. It is a life which since boyhood had always been connected with flying and with his cousin Lucky. Though living mostly in New York, the boys are on the spot at various momentous happenings- when Dr. Langley crashes his flying machine; at Kitty Hawk; and later at some of Glen Curtiss' trials. Interim thoughts and escapades bring out the development abroad, public opinion, the Curtiss-Wright controversies etc.-until Lucky becomes a flier, Andy a newsman and they both partake in a dramatic Coral Sea battle. Informal but informative.
