SENSORY AWARENESS: Rediscovery of Living as Experience

A record and explication of the techniques of Charlotte Selver -- the author's wife and a pioneer in ""sensory awareness."" Brooks pursues ""the four dignities of man"" (walking, standing, sitting, lying) and ""sensitive relating"" (touching, tasting, yawning, stretching, reaching and letting the muscles go in the hands of another). For the most part, the book contains simple, concrete psycho-physical explorations familiar to students of such disciplines as acting, dance, relaxation, Alexander, Feldenkrais, Esalen, Zen and Yoga. The author lapses into unintelligible cant about ""expanded consciousness"" as he experienced it during an airplane ride. But the book is agreeable enough, albeit somewhat hackneyed by now.
