CHINA'S DESTINY

The first English language edition not only of China's Destiny, but of China's Economic Theory, basic texts on which the thinking, the planning, the deeds of the Kuomintang are based. This is China's Mein Kampf, required reading for all literate Chinese, China's No. 1 best seller. A careful study of the texts make Chiang's contradictory position and his thinking clearer. Here is a philosophy which turns back the pages of history, by glorifying China's past, and by advancing Confucius' philosophy as bases for the new China. If Jaffe's annotations mean what they seem to, that past and that philosophy are juggled to fit the needs for the preservation of power in the hands of those who make China again a semicolonial, semifeudal system. Old China is reenforced against New China, a China which includes, says Jaffe, most of the intellectuals, the younger army officers, students, small business man, and Communists.... The translation is a brilliant one, prepared by two scholars, double checked. Annotations throughout comment not only on coent, but indicate where changes have been made for this edition, the first since China was allied with those Western powers he seeks to repudiate. Omissions are noted as well. Essential reading for everyone.
