COOKIE'S WEEK

A mischievous kitten lands in daily trouble; and though Monday's mayhem (falling into the toilet) is never quite matched, even when the curtains fall down, the gleam in Cookie's eye suggests that more trouble will be brewing even on the seventh day. The brief, simple text will serve the youngest as well as older preschoolers who are learning the days of the week. DePaola's watercolors are livelier than much of his other work, and freer in execution, although carefully designed; they sparkle with lovely, soft color. His stylized, childlike depiction of Cookie is pure essence of irrepressible cat. Just right for toddlers and cat-lovers of all ages.
