HE DARED NOT LOOK BEHIND

Concentration on a deformity as motivation for a killing has its points but this would perhaps have been a better short story than a book. Dr. Sterrill who had lived a childhood of apprehension, has a few years of happy marriage until his wife loses a leg in an auto accident. Sterrill's mounting hatred and fear of the artificial line she wears animate him to a flawless murder. But the leg still pursues him, and, in his unbalanced state, he meets retribution. Maoabre haunting that is not however tops.
