THE MAGIC BAT

Pony League baseball (Pony League is for 13 and 14 year olds- one step up from Little League and one below regulation) and its concurrent dilemmas are sparked by a slightly warmed over theme here- that skill and effort- not luck- are what count. Marty, Soup, Rocky, the other boys, and their coach Pop- who illustrate it, however, aren't a bad bunch. In Plainville, before the Pirates become Pony League- there are the rivalries between Marty and Soup, and Marty's dependence on a bat sent him by Yogi Berra- which are straightened out in championship form. For Little Leaguers too.
