PRESTON'S GOAL!

Intrepid, single-minded Preston Pig foils a stalking wolf through a series of unintended actions. Preston is out fiddling with his soccer ball one morning when his mother asks him to go to the store for a loaf of bread. As Preston heads out, the wolf awaits his chance. Preston traipses through another pig's garden; the gardener takes the wolf for the suspect and conks him. Then, displaying less-than-acute ball-handling skills, an oblivious Preston beans the neighborhood bully and then a policeman, both of whom mistake the wolf for the culprit and give him a licking. The wolf, thoroughly vexed, jumps his quarry, but winds up with a soccer ball for dinner. This is an ideal picture book for soccer enthusiasts; the story is not original, but it has moments of high slapstick to keep children involved.
