AMELIARANNE KEEPS SCHOOL

This is a better looking book (lots of pictures in full color by S.B. Pearse) than its predecessors, but I thought the story pretty incredible, even for Ameliaranne's vaunted prowess. The casual way in which the village school was run by one teacher -- and a boarding school at that -- and the way in which that teacher left the school in Ameliaranne's hands would be greeted with skepticism by American children. Running heads in black and white are identical on every page of text -- another feature that will come in for criticism. The color work is conventional but nice.
