THE CRUISING YACHT

After reading proofs on two books warning me off house building or purchase, the lure of transferring my home-making proclivities to a cruising yacht might be considerable -- were I a better sailor....But for those who yearn to own a boat on which they can live, be it ever so briefly, here is a practical handbook, for the middle income brackets. The author -- himself committed to a cabin cruiser -- gives the measuring rods by which to arrive at a decision as to what to buy -- in the class, approximately, of a 35' boat, which can go places. He suggests starting which the purchase of a good used boat, he discusses matters of construction, beam, hull design, rigging, living accommodations, power (whether motor or sail). He then goes on to outfitting for cruising, coastwise cruising requirements, simple basic instructions -- for the power boat man -- on sailing, the elementary principles of cruising -- and how to plan for ""going foreign"". The final section treats of safety advice. Defined market.
