Saul Handy is the diamond-sharp detective here. The background of the crime he solves is fascinating -- it's the N.Y. City diamond market. The author spent his life in the jewelry trade and knows a lot about putting a mystery together, too. Perhaps next time (and we hope there is a next time) there will be less reliance on coincidence and fewer corpses in the tray, but in the meantime, this is high value, semi-precious entertainment.
