THE GARDENER'S BUG BOOK: 1000 Insect Pests & Their Control

I fully expected to close this encyclopedia of garden pests with a determination to sow buckwheat on the ground prepared for my vegetable garden, and forget it. But when I finished, I decided instead to learn to recognize the insects, and how they work, to study the specific chemicals for the specific insects, to stop-look-listen, when in doubt, and use Dr. Westcott's admirable system of cross indexing (see plant host- possible injuries- possible causes then see which is the enemy and what the solution). And perhaps my preserve and canning shelves will bear witness to the efficacy of her book. It should certainly be on every gardener's reference shelf.
