RACE ON THE MOUNTAIN

Swept along by the exaggerations of a false rumor he had originated, Gerry Carson is faced with the task of converting a boast about his ability as a motorcyclist to reality. Living in Italy with his father, Gerry meets Carlo, an apprentice racer, who challenges Gerry, is impressed by the boast and nicknames him The Chicago Kid. The situation is abetted by Gerry's natural though undeveloped skill on the track. Before long, an Italian racing sponsor corners Gerry and convinces him of his championship potentialities. Conflicts arise from many sources. Largely from Gerry's competitive desires and his father's plans for his college education. After months of training Gerry proves his innate talent, placing third in the ""race on the mountain"", at the same time arriving at a more vital decision about the future. Animated sports fare with enough human interest to involve the reader beyond the track.
