A BLACK VELVET STORY

This is a very interesting psychological experiment, and I confess to having tested it out myself with excellent results. How well it would work with a child, I don't know, but it seems sound.... It's a putting to sleep story, with a rhythmic beat tending towards relaxation of the senses in the choice of words and the turn of phrase, and with the constant suggestion of black and softness throughout, from the black cat to the black houses and the black furnishings. And yet there is nothing somber about it, and Marjorie Flack's drawings are exquisite.
