STAIRWAY TO AN EMPTY ROOM

A point of panic when Monica Marshall, who never doubts the guilt of her brother-in-law when he faces the death penalty for the murder of his wife, Biddy, as she is set back by the observations and convictions of her niece, Winifred, who is sure her father is innocent. In a retreat from some unknown opponents- who attempt to silence Winifred permanently, and in a race against time, Monica's cool independence is shattered and the dirty traffic in which her sister had engaged is exposed. Thoroughly unnerving.
