Oreg realized that his was one more mouth to feed and that it was up to him to get out, so he ran away from the poverty striken farm above the Hudson River, and hiked to New York, part of the time as helper to a driver who gave him plenty of good advice. Once he had smelled the sea and seen the boats, his fate was sealed, and he shipped in perilous adventure for the West Indies, with a crew of cut throats and only captain and cook honest men. Laurid adventure, not very convincing.
